How to use the mapping portal
The City of Edinburgh Council Mapping Portal allows you to search for mapping datasets. Use the search box at the top of page to find the data you're looking for or alternatively leave the search term blank to browse through all of our datasets available on this site.
Once you've found the data you're looking for you can view it in an online map, download a copy of the data or link directly to the data using the API. Data can be downloaded as a CSV, KML or shapefile. The API provides access to the data as OGS WMS, OGC WFS, GeoJSON or GeoService.
Please read the license information found next to each dataset for clarification on the license and the use constraints that apply to that dataset. On accessing or using a dataset you will be deemed to have accepted the license that applies to that dataset. Most of these datasets are available under the Open Government License v3.0 (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/3/). Datasets available under the Open Government License v3.0 were captured by the City of Edinburgh Council against Ordnance Survey basemaps and require the following attribution statement to acknowledge the source of information: “Copyright City of Edinburgh Council, contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right (insert year)”.
More open data
The City of Edinburgh Council Open Data Portal contains both spatial and non-spatial open data. Currently some of the datasets in this mapping portal can be found in the open data portal and shortly all of the open data found in the mapping portal will be available via the open data portal.
More web maps
A number of the datasets here are used in some of our web maps. A full list of our web maps can be found on our website.
